Great cartoon! Lots of good has come from NCLB–more teacher collaboration, more attention to students with learning disabilities, actual accountability–but we’ve also had to make some unfortunate sacrifices. I’m interested to see what kind of legislation is in store and the implications of the new Common Core State Standards. I’m hoping they’re a shift in the right direction.
This cartoon not only shows how the kids are being taught isolated knowledge, it also shows how the teacher’s art of instruction is being taken away with NCLB. We are given certain things to teach and now a way to teach them as well. I agree with Loren; hopefully the Core Standards will get back to teachers teaching and kids enjoying learning!
